Yep. It really preys on the average person's ignorance of statistics. If you add up cold and flu deaths for 2 or 3 years and call it something new the numbers seem scary to people who don't know they're in a country of 330 million people, on a planet of 8+ billion people. Even most people who know don't get the scale of it.
These people would be pissing themselves over an epidemic of shower and ladder deaths if the (((news))) decided to report those numbers with the same dramatic fearmongering.
