Particularly for the Omicron strain, this is becoming more and more of an issue. As others have noted, UK data is ~80% incidental diagnosis, other countries are likely very similar. These incidental diagnoses are being used to artificially inflate the hospitalization numbers to push panic and the jabs. Here in Australia, the Omicron wave looks to be in full swing ~25% positivity rate on tests, an increase in hospitalizations, but not ICU or deaths. Apparently Qld and NT were hospitalizing ALL positive tested people (not sure if they're doing that still as it will very quickly become untenable). Everyone is tested for the coof on admission, so there will be a lot of incidental diagnoses. Hospitals here are fucking dystopian at the moment. My dad was in the hospital with pneumonia shortly before Christmas (I suspect jab related as he had recently been forced to get the jab). No one could go and see him, no one! Regardless of jab status, no visitors are even allowed in the foyer of the hospital. They have a line drawn on the ground and if you cross it, they freak the fuck out. This was in a small country town that has had zero "cases" for the vast majority of the "pandemic". They only recently had an outbreak, caused by a fully vaccinated person travelling to Melbourne and bringing it back. He was the school cleaner, and had kids, so it ripped through the school for a week or so.
