They are the most common cars too.
Those who can charge on 40/48/100Amps are way more expensive than an average diesel.
So if we compare the average ones, charging an average electric car on an average 12/16KVA generator (40/60AMPS) for let's say 4~6 hours would consume about 1 gallon of diesel per hour of charge.
An average diesel car consumes ~3 gallons/100 miles.
Standard EVs get anywhere from 150 miles (Nissan Leaf) to 310 miles (Tesla Model 3)
Now if you want to compare the ROI of an all equipped Tesla with the extra charge for the 100Amps Wall Mount and the electric cost to charge that car for an hour.
Unless you will drive long distances, I'm pretty sure the average diesel car will still be more efficient.
Fair point if you live in a country with cheap diesel. In Europe you'd likely drive cheaper with an EV after a few years.

Too bad long distances aren't what EVs are good at
This could change in a few years.
The problem is not only about efficiency though. Electric cars are supposed to be greener than a diesel, until you check what generates the electricity they require.
Sure, that and the overall damage done from resource production to recycling. I still like how they can accelerate.
