The software that talks to the devices runs on XP. I don't have the time, desire, or intelligence to reverse engineer a proprietary protocol program that talks to a lathe that's in use 24/7.

That, and games. That's why people need XP.
Personally, I have some video capture and processing equipment/software that never left the XP era, but there's nothing that really does what it does today.
