Out here in AZ we have stand-alone ERs. They are way cool. I've taken someone twice and there was no wait either time. Then again, I took him to the ER at the "good" hospital and there was no wait there either. Maybe we've just lucked out. I really like the stand-alones. If it's something serious enough that you need to stay overnight, they send you to an ER attached to a hospital. They are great for broken bones, infections, etc. I wouldn't hesitate to use one for suspected heart attack or stroke, either, just because of the lack of wait time. They'd treat you and then send you to the hospital.
