Mayor Daniel Lurie, a 49-year-old heir to the Levi's fortune, allegedly ordered energy officials to focus their efforts on restoring power to the War Memorial Opera House on December 21st. At the time his daughter Taya Lurie was performing as Clara, the central figure in The Nutcracker ballet, at a matinee showing of the Tchaikovsky Christmas classic. While large parts of the city were plunged into darkness the show managed to go on after being supplied with power.
