From the post: There is a law that says items sold can only be marked up 15% from comparable items outside the airport. Here’s how much they are marked up

  • McDonald’s +114% markup
  • Starbucks +54% markup
  • Pretzels +108% markup
  • Red Vines +129% markup
  • Phone charger cable +57% markup
  • Bottles of Coke and Pepsi +32% markup

The airport allows the 15% markup because of the crazy rent that is charged. They should reduce the rent and force the companies to sell items at the same price as their other Denver locations. I watched the interview with the concessions director, she should be a lawyer, defending the cost increases when it is the airport that makes it more expensive to operate a business, but skimming over the fact that the price problems start at the airport’s insane rent policies.

I last flew in and out of Denver 10 years ago. I remember stopping at a shop there to buy a bottle of water before my return flight, and seeing Fiji brand for $7. I bought something for around $2 and still felt ripped off. They also had a big pile of Hillary's book for sale - 20 or so copies of it staring me down while I waited in line. I turned every one of them around so their backs faced outward instead.

I'm not even surprised. Even snack prices at the Hudson shops are easily 50% more than normal convenience store prices.

I'm more concerned with all the African immigrant employees throughout the airport. If you didn't know you were in Colorado, you'd think you landed in Somalia.

I don't think I have seen a single international airport in the USA in at least 15 years that wasn't majority staffed by nogs.

They should investigate some gas stations. I've seen usb c cables for $20 and charger bricks for $30.
