Horrible. Maybe they fell off a ridge or something.
Or just got overly confident. Nature has a way of dealing with overconfidence.
And that's the age for it.
There's been meaningful snowfall in some parts of the Rockies already, so overexposure to the elements is probable. Fall came a bit early this year for Colorado.
Snow is nature's way of asking "Did you prepare?"
I feel like its a little sus that their GPS/SAT device was in the car at it's last ping. It still sucks though.
Was that their phone? I lose service 5 feet into most trailheads because of the trees and rocks.
Now an epirb should’ve worked if they activated it and had kept up with factory battery replacement and testing.
If you look at the pic it looks like they have one of those purpose built gps/sat beacons.
These are not just for avalanches anymore, they even have 2-way texting as well too. I have family that likes to camp-out and have some medical issues that make that harder. They carry something similar as a just in case thing.
