>A portion of the Colorado River has been designated as "infested" by Colorado Parks and Wildlife after adult zebra mussels were found in the river earlier this month. This is the first time adult zebra mussels have been found in the river. Veligers, the microscopic larvae of zebra mussels, were first detected in the Colorado River last year. “While this is news we never wanted to hear, we knew this was a possibility since we began finding veligers in the river,” said CPW Director Jeff Davis. CPW's invasive species manager was notified by the Aquatic Animal Health Lab on Aug. 28 that suspect veligers had been gathered from West and East Lake in James M. Robb-Colorado River State Park. On Sept. 2, during a follow-up survey, parks staff found adult zebra mussels in the lake.

I wonder how this will play out long term. I remember they made a big deal about zebra mussels getting into the Great Lakes. It never amounted to any real issues. In fact it made the water clearer.

They kill off a lot of local stuff and it allows other invasive's to get a foothold. Though, This happens in nature all of the damn time (now its mostly because of humans though). It is just slower when humans are not involved.

Oh, and they apparently are garbage to eat so don't do that either.

I think they said it was going to harm perch and walleye fishing in the lakes, but it never it. Now the asian carp, I don't want those fuckers getting lose, that would suck.

Fuck Asian carp.. Those things are evil monsters. We have drained entire lakes just to kill them all off in a area.
