It happened on Monday morning after 10 a.m. near the intersection of East Exposition Avenue and South Sable Boulevard. Aurora police spokesman Agent Matthew Longshore said the mother of the child, who was originally thought to be 4, told investigators she heard a gunshot and then ran inside her house to find the child with the injury. "We do not believe it was self-inflicted," Longshore said. Longshore said the child's father was in the home at the time of the shooting, as were other people. After first responders arrived the father was no longer at the home.
