I can't imagine spending that much on just a bike unless it's your profession or something.

He worked at a high end bike shop. I don't think it was his personal bike, more like a demo model. Other than professional cyclists, I think the main market for them is rich wankers who like to ride in the middle of the road on Sunday mornings and hold up traffic.

Electric bikes are pretty expensive these days. One of my customers had two bikes worth $6k each.
