Old law changed, creates problems, so solution is to create more laws and regulations.

There should never have been a law prohibiting certain retailers from selling a legal product lawfully. This stems from Colorado’s original “blue law” prohibiting alcohol sales except at liquor stores and pharmacies. It used to be you could not purchase alcohol on Sunday. You still cannot buy a car from a dealer on a Sunday, a huge inconvenience to people who work weekdays. Retailers should be allowed to set their own schedules and hours.

I call this phenomenon the broken window fallacy. You break windows in order to create business replacing windows. In this case, breaking windows is creating laws. Same thing in the pharmaceutical industry: they create a pill that causes a bad side effect. They later create a different pill to fix the side effect caused by the previous pill. And on and on it goes.
