In the Denver metro they are replacing most meters with smart meters.. At the same time they are switching over to Time based billing models that will completely fuck you if you use power at any of the "peak" times (like the normal work day).
At least there is an option to switch to a flat model. It will still cost more than it does now but at least at the highest end of peak you wont be paying like 30x more. Some people are going to get some insane bills over the next few months are are going to be pissed.
Fortunately, smart meters can still be pulled and replaced with copper pipe in a pinch.
You will not receive emergency spot power rates for the juice they take from your battery for grid stabilization, either.
