As stated in a older post in this same sub. They want to turn the Denver metro into a '15 minute city' and they are doing so under the pretense that its for affordable housing and to create a more equitable outcome.

SB-213 would force communities to change zoning and would eliminate a massive amount of R1 or "single family" home zoning which would massively increase density. How would you feel about the R1 neighborhood you live in getting rezoned to R2 or more? All of a sudden there would be 10x or more people, more traffic, probably more crime. It would destroy the area.

From the post: Recently, the governor and Democrat lawmakers introduced legislation that will enable the state to sidestep municipal housing codes in two ways. People will be able to build duplexes and triplexes and accessory-dwelling units (e.g., carriage houses) in single-family home neighborhoods without local approval. The legislation also contains what Gov. Polis calls the flexible option; cities can freely adopt state-developed zoning standards or have the regulations foisted upon them. That’s about as flexible as ‘your money or your life’ is at empowering personal decision-making.
