Many years ago I found myself driving near the "downtown" area. If I remember properly it was pre-lockdown's. I was looking for some supposedly amazing breakfast/brunch spot.
Well, I found it. There was a line of hipsters about a half block long. Oh, and everywhere around the area was nothing but strung out druggies and tent-city in the "mini parks" that you find in the area. After watching an actual drug deal between a bunch of junkies at a stoplight I noped the fuck out. Already intended to since I was not about to park and walk through that mess but it really sealed it.
A year or two later I for some stupid reason found myself in a similar area in the metro due to work. There was a food-truck-rally thing going on and figured it would be cool to check out. Driving up to it... Worse than what I saw many years earlier. Noped out again and said fuck it. Im never going to bother if I am in that town ever again.
At least what I do now allows me to avoid shitholes like that.
Denver had an air of "virtue signalling" even before anyone ever thought to utter such a term. People were running around and proclaiming "omg, look at all of these parks and green spaces we have!" all the while not realizing that those green spaces would soon be bulldozed over to make way for new housing.
They used to call it a "City in a park". It was never like that.
Also, Boulder.. Yeah. Its a cult.
