It seems like the only reason they have for reintroducing the wolves to the area is that the wolves used to be there. The reasons for not bringing them back are all practical economic and safety concerns. They probably couldn't bring in more brown people so they went for the next dangerous animal.

They don’t need to reintroduce species that naturally inhabit adjoining or nearby states. If the environment is right, the animals will fill the space. This happened with moose. Moose walked into Colorado from Wyoming in the 70s. Now we have tons of moose.
