It was released in theaters on July 22, 1988. It's as much a Christmas movie as Christmas in July is actually Christmas.

Christmas doesn't occur in warm climates.

Yes it does, decorated the tree in shorts, right after I finished sticking some fresh vegetable starts in the garden. The sleigh is maybe not a thing, but The Whole dang world seems to be able to carry a tune to the classic Christmas songs. The town main Central Park has a big pile of tents as a Christmas market, more so than places I used to live where it did snow for Christmas.

Reindeer don't survive in such climates.

Reindeer don’t survive in every place I have lived, although Christmas did.

"Scarface" with Al Pacino is more of a Christmas movie than Die Hard, it was released in December of 1983 - Happy Holidays!
