The religious aspect is mostly coincidental, but an advantage the Fulani will thoroughly exploit. This is more in line with r/K selection theory as it applies to humans. Nomads and settled farmers have historically never gotten along due to radically different strategies for survival. Nomads migrate wherever resources maybe abundant either to hunt or graze their herds. Settlers cultivate resources from a specific location and work to maintain their ability to renew their harvests at regular intervals.

However, the Fulani, being Muslim, will always reference Islamic doctrine to justify their actions. It also doesn't help that Nigeria is predominantly Muslim, so Muslim in the government are required to side against non-Muslims. Eventually, the Berom will have to adapt accordingly to the threat the Fulani present and right now the Fulani have larger numbers and are willing to take advantage of it.
