This is an excerpt from John MacArthur's sermon, "A True Knowledge of the True God." Used by permission. You can read the transcript, watch, or download the full video here: https://www.gty.org/library/sermons-library/90-397

Prosperity preachers.

They appeal to the poor or aspiring middle class. They hear things they like or would like to have/be and then they give these preachers their money thinking it is the way to obtain the nice messages they hear.

Does the message make them become a better person?

"By their fruits shall you know them." Do people stop smoking, drinking, eating poorly, being angry, etc. after listening to Joel's messages? No? Yes? Do people get more greedy from listening to his messages? Yes. So there is your fruit. That's how to know if the person is spreading a good message or not.
