My church is making you do something like pre marital counseling before getting married, or using them as an officiant. It seems like a complete waste to me though, since why bother? Not only that it takes 6 months to complete, and all it really does is focus on topical things i dont care about. Is it worth it?

Honestly her family makes a great pre martial counselor group, since they ask all the questions that need answering. I feel like counseling itself is not the problem, church mandated demands for counseling for a condition of their services to me makes it scummy, it feels like coersion at that point

That makes sense. So don’t go to that church then. But you should still get premarital counseling, and not from her family, but from an objective professional source.

See my initial reply to your post.

i egt mixed advice on this, some of the people within that church said to not do it, and most people agree its a waste, but the pastor wont marry us without it, so now im just super confused

Like I said in my initial reply to your post, not all counseling is equal. I’ve had good counseling and bad counseling. But that doesn’t mean counseling in general is useless or a waste of time.

You ever had bad sex before? I have. But it doesn’t mean that “sex is stupid.”

Read my initial response to your post, then get back to me.
