Supplication is a form of pleading, presenting oneself in a humbled state, to make a request. Going before a legitimate ruler, one kneels and bows the head in an act of obeisance, a physical demonstration of lesser status in the face of someone superior.
The Creator of the universe would likely be due just the teensiest amount of respect, therefore the process of approaching Him would be best advised to be done in a state of humility. However, this isn’t a requirement. Taking that form is more of a reminder of one’s station in comparison to God’s.
