It isn't too much to ask as we are not the ones asking: God almighty is asking and he can make miracles happen.
"Can" and "should" are different concepts. Miraculously making people repent would present a contradiction in terms because repentance must be freely chosen.
Now God showing up with a legion of angels is certainly more persuasive than little ol' me, but that's not "making". That's asking from a position of influence.
