Looking at the book of Enoch, and the punishments for our behaviors are ... atrocious to say the least. What I find interesting is the canon removes the book of Enoch from the Bible, but I can completely see why. It's essentially the missing link that explains everything else, it explains the giants, the miscegenation, the wild sex parties, being led by lust, the Aryan race, etc. However, in our quest (or really the jews) to be tolerant as a society, and equating being devious as being noble and being a sinner as to be sinless, it seems we have completely detracted from the ways of God. Romans goes into great detail about our end times too, by showing God will let people be led by their impulses into complete chaos. Revelation further enhances the point too. It seems the time for payback and wrath is fast approaching us

Look around. This is what God's wrath actually looks like. A society that is committing suicide, being led by stupid insane people who only want to tear down and destroy. This is God telling us, "You follow my laws, or you destroy yourselves. Your choice. Free will, kids, it's a bitch."

I don't think God actually has to punish us. The act inherently punishes us. We make it hell on earth because the 7 sins are inherently part of man. But you know i don't think all is lost either. I think when we make our own punishment ridiculous enough eventually whatever people are left will right themselves.
