10 Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. (Psalms 85:10 KJV)
This verse is speaking of what Jesus did for us, as God did not want to destroy mankind, but had to deal with our sin. The only way He could do that was to send His Son Jesus to earth, to take our punishment for sin (John 3:16), so that we could become righteous through Jesus (Romans 3:22), and be able again to be in fellowship with God (John 17:3), which is eternal life.
Righteousness and peace have kissed and made up through the atonement that Jesus brought. This is a wonderful word picture of what Jesus did through His becoming our sacrificial lamb, and suffering our punishment for us. Only God could have come up with such a marvelous plan of redemption for His creation, and praise God that He did just that. When you can understand just what the sacrifice of Jesus accomplished, the doing away with the sin of the whole world, it is just mind boggling. It sure shows how much God loves us, to have gone to the expense of sending His own Son to die for us, and it makes the love of God, who is love (1 John 4:8), beyond our ability to understand with our finite minds. Thank you Father for having such love for us humans, and proving it by sending Jesus to die for us, so we could again fellowship with you.
