5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. (1 Peter 5:5-7 KJV)
God tells us over and over to not be proud, but to be humble, as that is a godly trait and the way that Jesus is. By submitting ourselves to each other with humility, we show that we have the love of God living within us. You can not be proud or arrogant and have God’s love in you. Peter is quoting Proverbs (Proverbs 3:34) in this verse. If we will humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, then He will exalt us in due time, and if we don’t humble ourselves, He will bring us down in due time.
All Christians should always cast their cares upon the Lord, as that is the only way that we can humble ourselves properly. Jesus told us that His yoke was easy, and that we should cast our cares upon Him (Matthew 11:29-30), and when we do, He will take care of us in a way that we never could. What an understatement that He cares for us, as He came and died for us, and how could He show His love more than that. If the Christian can ever get hold of the tremendous love of God, and have it fill him, then you would find that everything else in this life, tends to become unimportant, as God is love (1 John 4:8). You will be able not only to be humble, but able to let the love of God flow through you to others, as if you are full of God, you are full of His love. What tremendous peace and security it gives you when you are full of God’s love. Praise God for His AGAPE type of love, and for giving it to us (Galatians 5:22-23) who are born again.
