Daily Devotional

January 2

14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. (John 5:14 KJV)

This is where Jesus healed the man at the pool, and then found him later in the temple. Jesus is telling us that our sicknesses and diseases can be caused by sin in our lives as the devil only comes to steal, kill and destroy us (John 10:10). If you are a born again believer, then God never punishes you with sickness and diseases, as Jesus bore all our punishment, but if you do sin, you still give the devil an inroad into your life (Romans 6:16), and the devil will be the one that puts it on you. Not all sickness and disease comes from sin (John 9:1-4).

The bible shows that God did put sickness on people in the Old Testament, but that was before Jesus, and was always in judgment (Deuteronomy 28:61). Sickness and disease is never a blessing, and God does not ever use those things to teach you something (Romans 5:9). If you are not saved, you can still receive punishment from God for your sins, but it is never a blessing, but judgment. The believers sins have been forgiven by Jesus sacrifice (Galatians 3:13), but that doesn’t mean we can go live in sin, as if we do, God still loves us, but the devil will come into our lives with his destruction. So live holy (1 Peter 1:15) to keep the devil at bay and walk after the Spirit to reap the benefits that our salvation has for us. Praise God for Jesus!
