7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. 8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. 9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging. - 1 Peter 4:7-9 (KJV)
By the signs of the times, we know that the end is near, as all the signs talked about in the bible, have already, or are, occurring now. The Greek word translated “sober”, is not talking about not being drunk, but it means “to be of a sound mind”, so Peter is telling us that we need to stay alert, and think straight, as the end is near. We need to stay in prayer, or communication, with the Lord so that we will know what is happening, and let Him guide us during the end times.
The word “charity”, as the bible uses it, means “God’s kind of love”, so we need to fervently show this AGAPE type love to all our brothers and sisters in the Lord, as well as our neighbors. God’s kind of love certainly does cover the multitude of sins, as when we are walking in His love, we are in the spirit, and the blood of Jesus keeps us clean (1 John 1:7). If you are truly walking in the spirit, you will try to live a holy life (1 Peter 1:15), as your “want to” changes when you are truly born again.
Peter is telling us to be hospitable to one another, out of love, and not out of obligation (grudging). If you truly have God’s kind of love toward others, you will naturally be hospitable to them, as you wish to be with them, and serve them, as Christ has served us. You can not hate your brother, and love Jesus at the same time (1 John 4:20), so let your light shine (Matthew 5:16), and love everyone, as the end is approaching quickly. Thank you Lord for your Word.
