Daily Devotional

December 26

10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. - 1 John 3:10-11 (KJV)

John had just said that if you are born of God you can’t sin, and he is talking about your born again spirit would not lead you to sin as it can not sin. Here he is saying that the born again believer will try not to sin, and will try to live righteously for God (1 Peter 1:15), and anyone who still lives in sin, is not truly born again, as their nature has not been changed. We can not look on the heart of a person like God does, but you can tell by a persons actions and lifestyle (fruit) if they have been born again, as how a persons heart is, will be reflected in his actions (Proverbs 23:7).

If you don’t love other people, then you can not be full of God, for God is love (1 John 4:16). Jesus made it clear, that the way the world would know that we are Christians, is our love for one another (John 13:34), and He commanded us to do so. This is something that our churches are missing, as we hear many things about how we should live, and what we must do to be right with God, but it is not about our doing, but it is about our loving one another. Jesus taught that we should love God above all, and our neighbor as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-39), and that is what John is saying in these verses. You can tell if a person is born again, as they will let the love of God flow through them toward others, as when you are born again, you get the love of God in the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Praise God for all our wonderful blessings through Jesus.
