45 And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord. 46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. - Luke 1:45-47 (KJV)
The Christmas Story continues. This is Elisabeth continuing to prophesy to Mary about what the angel had told Mary, and this was from the Holy Ghost, as Elisabeth had no natural knowledge of these things. What a confirmation this was to Mary, for the Holy Ghost to bare witness to Elisabeth about what had happened to Mary concerning the fact that God had fathered her child, Jesus. God is so good to clarify and verify His dealings with us, and gives us confirmation of His heavenly blessings to us.
Mary was so blessed by this confirmation, she could not help but magnify the Lord for what He had done to her. We need to all be so very thankful for the things that God does for us, and give Him thanks and praise for our blessings (Psalms 100:4).
Mary’s spirit rejoiced in her God, and notice that she said God was her Savior, so this shows that Mary did need a Savior as we all do. I have heard some say that Mary was sinless, and perfect in all respects, but the fact that she needed a Savior shows that she was a sinner like the rest of mankind (Romans 3:23). She was certainly blessed to be the mother of Jesus, the Messiah, but God did not choose her because she was perfect. She was chosen because she was of the bloodline of David, and was willing to be impregnated by the Holy Ghost, and because she was a virgin, which was prophesied (Isaiah 7:14). Praise God for His wonderful plan of salvation for us.
