Daily Devotional

November 23

28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: 29 For our God is a consuming fire. - Heb 12:28-29 (KJV)

The verses just before this one (Hebrews 12:26-27) were talking about the shaking of the heaven and earth, and is quoting Old Testament scripture (Haggai 2:6). This verse is telling us that the kingdom of God cannot be shaken, and all other things will be destroyed, but not the kingdom of God, and all who have been born again, are in the kingdom of God. Praise God we have security, being in the unmovable kingdom of God. We must have grace to serve God, as if we got what we deserve, we would go to hell (Romans 3:23). You must accept the grace of God, through faith (Ephesians 2:8), to be saved, and that faith has to be in Jesus. You must have faith to be pleasing to God (Hebrews 11:6), and God’s grace is how we are saved (Ephesians 2:5), through faith.

God is a consuming fire, because He is a jealous God (Deuteronomy 4:24), and He will consume everything in this world, except for His kingdom. Thank God that Jesus brought us salvation (2 Corinthians 5:19), and even though we should have a godly fear of our Father, because He is love (1 John 4:8), He has chosen to bring us back into fellowship with Him. Because of His great love for us children of His, He not only forgave us our sins (Jeremiah 31:34), but has given us all blessings in heavenly places (Ephesians 1:3) – Praise God for His mercy, grace, longsuffering, and most of all His AGAPE love. Thank you Jesus for our salvation.
