November 7

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. - 1 Peter 2:9-10 (KJV)

Praise God that we, who are born again, are a “chosen generation”, and are truly God’s chosen people. The word translated “generation” literally means “kin”, and most bible versions have translated this word as “race”. I like being kin to God, and being His child. We are a “royal priesthood”, as we are royalty and priests (Revelation 1:6), and a holy nation, as we have the righteousness of Jesus making us holy. I can relate to being a peculiar people, and we who serve the Lord are a different kind of people. This means that we are a purchased people (Ephesians 1:14), special to God – Wow, how great is that, to be special to God. We should all praise God, and glorify him to others (Matthew 5:16), at all times, in everything we say and do. He certainly deserves all our praise.

Peter is writing to Gentiles (non-Jews), who were not a people of God as were the Jews, until Jesus came and rent the veil of the temple, making way for the Gentiles to enter into the presence of God (Matthew 27:51). In the Old Testament times there was no mercy shown to the Gentiles, but now, thanks to Jesus, we have the mercy of God poured out on us, and we have been brought into fellowship with the Father (John 17:3). We certainly need all the mercy and grace that God can give us, so be thankful to Jesus for making it possible. Thank you Father for your unconditional love, mercy and grace toward us, your children.
