22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. 23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. - Luke 6:22-23 (KJV)
Jesus is preaching to His disciples, giving information on blessings and curses. Here Jesus is telling us that when we serve Him, we can expect men to hate us, and reject us, and that is so true, as the world hates it when the light of God shines out on their darkness, and exposes it to everyone. Anyone that truly serves God, will be persecuted (2 Timothy 3:12), as Jesus was persecuted, and this world still comes against Jesus who is living through His saints. If you never suffer any persecution from people in this world, then you must be headed the same direction as the devil is headed, as if you go against him, he will see to it that you are persecuted, as he comes only to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). Jesus came to give us life more abundantly, so the two are in direct opposition to each other, and if you are not on the side of Jesus, then you must be serving the devil.
We, who are born again and serving the Lord, should rejoice when the devil and this world, comes at us with persecution, as that means we are causing the devil’s kingdom a problem. Jesus came to earth for the purpose of destroying the works of the devil (1 John 3:8), and when we are serving Jesus, that will be our purpose also, and will cause the devil to persecute us without doubt. We must remember that persecution from the devil, is not because of us, but it is against Jesus who is living in, and through, us who are serving Jesus. We should rejoice and leap for joy, when the devil persecutes us, as our reward in heaven will be great, so we should love it when we cause the devil anguish. Remember to resist the devil and he will flee from you (James 4:7). Thank you Lord for giving us power over the devil.
