Serious question, what is a saint?

The Greek word [used there] is transliterated as "hagios": https://www.biblehub.com/greek/40.htm

It means holy or sacred, so there are various ways to translate it: saints, holy people, [the] holy, etc.

In the "Great Exchange", Jesus took our sin and gave us his righteousness. So we are not holy because of our actions, but because we received the Holy Spirit (God) through faith in Jesus.
