1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. - Eph 5:1-2 (KJV)
Paul is telling us that we should live a godly life, as we are the children of God, and a child should want to be like his father (1 Peter 1:15). Most churches do not teach this way, as they tend to teach that you need to live holy or God will get you, or at least not answer your prayers. That is a fear motivation, and is not good, as fear brings torment (1 John 4:18). Even though it might be effective in getting some people to live holy, it will torment them, and they will not benefit from the peace and joy that God wants to give those that believe in Him. We were the children of darkness, but now, if born again, have been made the children of light, and therefore need to live that way (Ephesians 5:8).
If we have been born again, we have the very nature of God living in us, and we need to let it show, and it will show as love, as God is love (1 John 4:8). If you study all the commands that Jesus gave us to live by, they all are based on love for God, and love for each other. Jesus told us to love one another, as He has loved us (John 13:34), and that was loving us enough to die for us – Wow, if we could only love each other with that kind of AGAPE, unconditional, love, then this world would be awesome to live in. The fruit that all, who are truly born again, should show is love for others and obedience to Jesus (Hebrews 5:9), and if you find it hard to love others, you might better get born again, as all Christians should be filled with love, as that is being filled with God, and is part of the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). How can you have God’s love in you and not show it? Be sure you are truly born again, and you will love others. Thank you Lord for giving us your love to share with others.
