21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: - Romans 3:21-22 (KJV)
The law was given by God to the Jews, and was never intended for the Gentiles (Romans 3:19), yet our churches have preached the law of doing to be right with God, and that was never God’s intention. Paul had been showing in previous verses, that the righteousness of God was now a Grace gift, given to us freely by God through faith in Jesus (Ephesians 2:8), and was not something to be earned. The legalistic Jews just could not accept this Gospel of good news, as they were so wrapped up in doing the works of the law that they could not believe that righteousness could be gotten any other way. The law itself, as well as the prophets, foretold of the day that the law would end, and God would no longer impute our sins unto us (Jeremiah 31:34).
By putting our faith in Jesus as our Savior, we obtain the righteousness of God as a gift (Galatians 2:16). No one, but Jesus, has ever been able to fulfill the law (Matthew 5:17), and become righteous that way, and the law was not given so that we might become righteous by keeping it, but was to show us that we could not keep the law (Romans 3:20), and needed a Savior. This gift of righteousness is available to all who believe on Jesus as their Savior, and Jesus sacrifice did away with the separation between the Jews and Gentiles. Praise God for such a wonderful gift, and for bringing us all back into relationship with Him (John 17:3).
