Daily Devotional

August 26

21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: - Romans 3:21-22 (KJV)

The law was given by God to the Jews, and was never intended for the Gentiles (Romans 3:19), yet our churches have preached the law of doing to be right with God, and that was never God’s intention. Paul had been showing in previous verses, that the righteousness of God was now a Grace gift, given to us freely by God through faith in Jesus (Ephesians 2:8), and was not something to be earned. The legalistic Jews just could not accept this Gospel of good news, as they were so wrapped up in doing the works of the law that they could not believe that righteousness could be gotten any other way. The law itself, as well as the prophets, foretold of the day that the law would end, and God would no longer impute our sins unto us (Jeremiah 31:34).

By putting our faith in Jesus as our Savior, we obtain the righteousness of God as a gift (Galatians 2:16). No one, but Jesus, has ever been able to fulfill the law (Matthew 5:17), and become righteous that way, and the law was not given so that we might become righteous by keeping it, but was to show us that we could not keep the law (Romans 3:20), and needed a Savior. This gift of righteousness is available to all who believe on Jesus as their Savior, and Jesus sacrifice did away with the separation between the Jews and Gentiles. Praise God for such a wonderful gift, and for bringing us all back into relationship with Him (John 17:3).

If you are truly born again, your sin nature is changed, and you will no longer want to live in sin. If you still want to sin, then you were not truly born again, as it makes you want to live for Jesus. Jesus did not do away with the law, but He fulfilled it, making Him righteous under the law, and then He gives those that believe in Him, His righteousness. God puts His law in our hearts when we are born, and we know right from wrong. The law still is valid for all that reject Jesus. God bless you for reading God's word, Love, Pastor Joe.

You began your devotional “The law was given by God to the Jews, and was never intended for the Gentiles”. I can find no justification in scripture for saying that the law was done away with for anyone.

As a born again christian do you really find that you no longer sin?

How do you reconcile “The law still is valid for all that reject Jesus” with Jesus saying: ‘15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.’ John 14 KJV

Blessings in Jesus the Messiah

Jesus commandments were about Love, and were not about keeping the law. He said if you love God and your neighbor, you have fulfilled the entire old law of doing. I was not called by God to argue or debate His word, only to teach it. If you are truly born again and have the Holy Ghost in you, then all you have to do is ask Him these questions and He will answer them. Thanks for reading God's Word, and have a blessed day. Love, Pastor Joe.

Please forgive me if I am tiring you Pastor Joe that is not my intention at all. I read your devotionals because if feel the strong spirit of love and compassion in them, and value highly your expounding upon the wisdom regarding these things as they are found in the word. This is precisely why I am trying to reconcile this spirit of love with your seeming antipathy towards the law and commandments, which I understand as being in the same spirit of God’s love. I do my utmost to live in the holy spirit and I feel his guidance in my life and especially as I read the scriptures, yet all that I find leads me to believe that the commandments are our rights and responsibilities which our loving Father has laid out for our blessing (or, God forbid, cursing). I understand that we are saved by grace through faith, nevertheless we are repeatedly exhorted to good works and to keep the commandments.

2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 1 John 5 KJV

Blessings of love in Jesus’ name.
