Daily Devotional

July 24

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. - John 15:7-8 (KJV)

This is not a promise that we can ask and receive anything we might want, as it is only if we are abiding in Jesus, and have His words abiding in us – being a disciple indeed (John 8:31). If you are truly born again, and doing all that Jesus has commanded us to do, like loving each other (John 13:34), doing the works that He did (John 14:12), then you will know that He will do what you ask. If you are truly serving God with all your heart, God’s desires become your desires, and therefore what you ask will be in accordance to His will (His Word), and He will grant your wishes.

To glorify our God, we must bear much fruit, and the fruit we bear must be good fruit. You can tell a tree by it’s fruit, and you can tell a true, born again, Christian by their fruit – if it’s good fruit the Christian is walking after the Spirit, and if it’s bad fruit they are walking after the flesh (worldly). The fruit the bible is talking about is the way you live your life, whether you are letting the light of God shine in your life (Matthew 5:16), or if you are serving the devil through sin. Claiming to be a Christian is not enough, as God knows the heart, and will judge you by what you do, and not just what you say (James 2:20). Let your light shine for Christ through your life, and you will bear much fruit, as the way you live might be the only bible some read. Praise God for giving us the chance to live for Him, and know the love and peace that it brings through the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Thank you Jesus!
