Because it's biblical? Paul said in 1 Cor chapter 14 that he wishes they ALL spoke in tongues, that he speaks in tongues more than all of them, and not to forbid speaking in tongues.

It edifies the one doing it. (Many who oppose this doctrine focus on the fact that prophecy is a better, more desirable gift. Tongues is edifying!)

No it's not speaking in an unknown language is useless.

Please appreciate that the discussion has gone like this: I bring up what the Bible says and reference the source. You say "no."

You aren't willing to have your mind changed by the Word? Ok! That is, sadly, not uncommon these days (especially on this website).

Why not ask God, aloud, to show you insights from the Word, and then read chapter 14 while asking yourself "would THIS make sense if he were talking about a human language? A spiritual language?"
