21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. - John 14:21 (KJV)

If you truly love Jesus, you will try and keep His commandments, not to get anything from God, but just because you love Him. James tells us that faith without works (of faith) is dead (James 2:26), and you can not truly have faith in Jesus and be saved, unless you want to keep His commandments (Hebrews 5:9). You can not truly love someone, and not want to please them. Jesus told us what to do many times (1 John 3:23), and He took the whole Law of the Old Testament, and made it simple, just to love (John 13:34). We can not truly love others if we have not first loved Jesus, and experienced the “AGAPE” type of God’s love ourselves. Jesus loved us enough to come die for us (John 3:16), proving His love for us. We then must show we love Him, by keeping His commandments.

The word translated “manifest” in this verse, means Jesus will “disclose” Himself to us, and we will know He is real and alive. Serving God is just as simple as loving God, and loving others as ourselves, and it means loving with God’s kind of love. It means that you die to yourself, and put others needs above your own. Also we need to obey, and do, the things that Jesus told us we should do, such as minister the Gospel to others (Matthew 28:19), and do the works that Jesus did, and told us we would do (John 14:12). Show that you love Him, by following all His commands and directions, proving that being a Christian is rewarding, and enjoying the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Thank you Lord for loving us so very much.
