16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. - John 14:16-17 (KJV)

What a wonderful promise this verse contains. The Greek word translated “another” in this verse, is referring to another of the same kind, so Jesus is saying that the Comforter is just like Him. Jesus made it clear that we would be better off with the Holy Spirit living in us, than with Jesus being with us (John 16:7) in person. Praise God that the Holy Spirit will abide in us, who are born again, forever and has promised to never leave us, or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). What a comfort it is to have the Holy Spirit in us, as it not only brings us all the Spiritual Gifts (Ephesians 4:11), but also gives us the power to accomplish what Jesus told us to do (John 14:12). In the Old Testament days, the Holy Spirit would come and go with the people (Psalms 51:11), and did not stay with them at all times.

The Holy Spirit brings truth to us, and it enables a believer to be able to understand the Scriptures (Holy Bible), and will quicken God’s Word to your heart. An unsaved person can not receive the Holy Spirit, and He will come only to those who have been born again (John 3:3). Even though the disciples had the Holy Spirit with them, once Jesus returned to heaven, the Holy Spirit was sent to live in them forever (Acts 2:4). What a wonderful salvation that Jesus brought to us, not only to bring us back into fellowship with the Father (John 17:2-3), but to give us the power of the Holy Spirit to live inside us along with the very Spirit of Jesus (Galatians 4:6) – Wow! Thank you Jesus for all you have done for us.
