24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? 25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. - Romans 8:24-25 (KJV)

Paul has been teaching on the glory that is already in us, who are born again (Romans 8:17), and of the new resurrected body that we will receive when Jesus comes again. We have to have hope, and faith in that hope coming to pass, before we can be saved, and it takes both to believe in the things that we can not see. We have never seen God, but we must have the faith to believe in Him, and that faith comes by hearing (or reading) the Word of God (Romans 10:17). It takes no faith, or hope, to believe in something that you can see, as once you have it why would you hope for it?

When we hope for something we can not see, then if we have patience, we can wait for it. Faith is just hope over a period of time (patience), and faith is what pleases God (Hebrews 11:6). Because us humans can not see into the spirit world, we must have hope, faith and patience to be able to believe in the things of the bible. So many people in this modern day lack the patience to be able to look forward to the coming of the Lord, and our fast paced worldly life does not lend itself to hoping, but we want it all right now. God is a god of patience and faith, along with being love (1 John 4:8), and He is very longsuffering with His children, so we should strive to be like Him. We, who are born again, have been given all these attributes in our fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), and if we will just walk after the Spirit, they will manifest themselves in our daily life. Praise God for all our grace gifts.
