June 14

1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. - John 14:1 (KJV)

This is Jesus giving instruction to His disciples the night before He was crucified. Most people, in the modern world, would say that this is an unreasonable request, as people seem to think that circumstances control our emotions, and we can not help our reactions. This is just not so, as a person has complete control over their emotions. The secret of staying in control of your emotions is to keep your focus upon God (Isaiah 26:3), and He will keep you in perfect peace.

Faith in God is what allows us to overcome the world (1 John 5:4), and faith is what pleases God (Hebrews 11:6). Jesus was telling His disciples these things so they would not be offended at His crucifixion (John 16:1), and if they had been strong in their faith (Hebrews 4:2), and had kept their focus upon the Lord, they could have controlled their fears and emotions. We can learn a lot from these Scriptures, as they show us that we, who are born again, can use the power given us, to stay in peace in all situations. This is extremely important, as if you come into a serious situation, and let your emotions run wild, then you are in big trouble, as once they do, you can not easily bring them back into control. If you will keep your focus on the Lord, you can stay at peace in any situation. Praise God for giving us control over this world and our emotions.
