Daily Devotional

June 10

27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: 28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. - Matt 20:27-28 (KJV)

This is amazing, as everything in this world teaches us to promote ourselves, not to serve others. You can only do this by trusting in the Lord instead of your own thinking (Proverbs 3:5). The kingdom of God is just different than the ways of man, and we have to change the way we think to be able to understand it. This does not mean that you do not fulfill the oversight that God places on you, as you must be a shepherd of the flock, if that is what you are called to do. It really is a matter of humbling ourselves, and putting the welfare of others before ourselves. It goes along with loving your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:39).

Jesus was the perfect example of putting the welfare of others before Himself, as He gave His life for us, and served mankind by healing, teaching, and ministering to us while He was on the earth (Matthew 9:35). Jesus said that He was meek and lowly in heart (Matthew 11:29), and He proved that by His life. What a wonderful world this would be, if everyone put others ahead of themselves, and we all showed the love of God toward each other. If you ever really understand the love that God has for us, and get born again (John 3:3), you can let that love flow through you to others, and then you will be able to live as Jesus did, and show that you are a Christian by loving one another (John 13:35). Thank you Lord for loving us with your kind of love.
