**Daily Devotional** **May 30** *24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. 26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? - Matt 16:24-26 (KJV)* In order to truly be a Christian (Little Christ), you must be willing to deny your own self, and follow all the commands that Jesus gave us (Hebrews 5:9). This includes doing the works that Jesus did (John 14:12). A true born again Christian will put others welfare above his own (Matthew 22:39), and be willing to do without to enable others to have their needs met. All us humans tend to be self-centered, (which is pride), and we naturally want to provide for ourselves, before thinking of the needs of others. This is why there is so much conflict in life, as pride causes contention (Proverbs 13:10), and contention is the beginning of strife and conflict. To be a true disciple of Jesus you must come to the end of yourself, and put others more important than yourself. To do this you must give yourself to God (Romans 12:1), and sacrifice your ego to live for Him. What a powerful thought, as what good are things gained in this life, if you cause yourself to spend eternity in the lake of fire (Revelation 20:15). This is why you need to store up your treasure in heaven (Luke 12:34), as that is where your heart will be, and your heart needs to be with Jesus while you walk the narrow path.
