1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. - 1 Cor 15:1-2 (KJV)

Paul had been dealing with the Corinthians about a number of issues, and some of them had started believing that there wasn’t going to be a resurrection of our bodies (1 Corinthians 15:12). Paul makes it very clear that the resurrection of Jesus was necessary for the belief in our salvation. This chapter is the most extensive in the bible explaining the resurrection of the dead, and makes it clear that we all will be resurrected, either into heaven or hell. You must believe this for the Gospel to be effective in your life.

It is not enough to just believe on Jesus, and get saved, but you must continue to believe and have saving faith in your salvation, to maintain it. If you start changing your beliefs away from the true Gospel of Christ, then you can void your salvation (2 Peter 1:10). You must keep faith in your salvation (1 Peter 1:5) until the end, as faith is what pleases God (Hebrews 11:6), and must be maintained. This verse lets you know that you can believe in vain, by straying away from the truth. Many fall away from faith in Jesus, and start trying to earn their own righteousness by works of the law, voiding what Jesus did for them (Romans 3:20). You also can renounce your faith and become a reprobate (Romans 1:28). You also can blasphemy the Holy Ghost, and miss going to heaven (Matthew 12:31-32). You also must obey the commands of Jesus (Hebrews 5:9). Keep on believing in Jesus and obeying Him to assure your salvation, and don’t let religion lead you away from the true Gospel. Thank God for His wonderful plan of salvation.
