When you see pictures of the Earth like from the space station, that does kind of describe what it looks like isn't it?
You mean the CGI earth from the CGI space station? Even if the earth is a sphere, the station is too close to the ground for such curvature as we see in nasa's videos; it is barely ~420km (~260miles) up. For example, if you scale down the earth to a sphere of 1m (~30in) of diameter, the ISS would be about 3cm (~1 ³/₁₆) above it; that's pretty close.
Pretty sure I read once the literal translation of 'god sits on the circle of the earth' is sphere
