38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. - Heb 10:38 (KJV)

This scripture “the just shall live by faith” is quoting an Old Testament Scripture (Habakkuk 2:4). This Scripture was also quoted in other places in the New Testament (Romans 1:17 & Galatians 3:11). The previous verses in this chapter have been teaching that those that put faith in Jesus as their Savior, are forgiven all their sins (Hebrews 10:10, 14). It is making it clear that ALL sins are forgiven, past, present and future ones. Many churches teach that you must confess all your sins to be saved, but that is not what the bible says. All our sins have been forgiven by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, and God does not hold our sins against us anymore (Hebrews 10:17).

God made it clear that we must have faith for Him to be pleased with us, as faith is what pleases Him (Hebrews 11:6). Our faith must be in Jesus as our Savior, and we must have faith in the Grace of God (Ephesians 2:8). God has provided for our salvation and all the Spiritual Gifts by grace, but we must do our part by putting faith in that grace. Also you must not draw back from that faith, or you become a reprobate, and you can lose your salvation (Hebrews 10:26-29). You can not do the works of the law and earn salvation by your own efforts, as it must be faith in what Christ did, and not faith in what you do (Galatians 2:16). Praise God for His abundant mercy, grace and love!
