Daily Devotional

April 19

45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. 46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? 47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God. - John 8:45-47 (KJV)

Many people will not believe the truth, and do not let what the bible says, change what they believe. Even Christians are many times guilty of this, as they will tend to believe what they have been taught, even if it does not agree with the bible. The truth can set a person free if they receive it (John 8:32), or will cause them to rebel against it if they reject it.

Jesus was sinless His whole life (1 Peter 2:22), so the people could only point out how He did not obey the man made rules during His ministry. Jesus brought in a New Covenant, and was living in accordance with it, rather than abide by the Old Covenant rules. The people would not believe Him, as they could not accept the truth, as it convicted them of their many sins they were committing against God.

People who do not hear and follow the Words of God, are not of God. This is what was said several times in Scripture (John 10:4-5, 1 John 4:6), and lets us know that if we truly are God’s children, we not only hear His Words, but we follow them as best we can. The modern church seems to think you can be saved without studying God’s Word (John 8:31), and following His commandments (Hebrews 5:9), but the bible says that is not true. I think maybe I will serve the Lord with all my heart, and insure my salvation – you should also.
