Daily Devotional

April 15

5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. - Romans 6:5-6 (KJV)

This verse is telling us, who are born again, that we have died with Christ, as our old sin nature has been done away with, and we now have the righteous nature of Jesus living in us (Galatians 4:6). What a wonderful promise it is, that as we have died with Jesus, we also will be resurrected with Him. When we are born again, we are at that time, resurrected in our spirits into a new person that is created holy and righteous (Romans 3:22). When Jesus comes again, we will receive a new glorified spiritual body (1 Corinthians 15:44), just as Jesus has, and we will be like Him – Praise God.

Since the very Spirit of Jesus has, now replaced our sin nature (old man) that we were born with, if you are born again, we should now not be led to sin. Our desire should now be to live for Christ, and lead a holy life for Him (1 Peter 1:16). When you are born again your want to changes, as your new spirit is holy, and will make you want to try and live a holy life out of love for Jesus. You no longer do things to earn favor with God (works), but now you do acts of love for the one that has redeemed you from death (1 Peter 1:15). Some of the very things we do for Jesus are the same as people under the law do, but now it is out of love instead of obligation (1 Corinthians 13:3). The Christian can still sin occasionally, but they will not live therein, but will try to live for God, and let their light shine in this dark world. Praise God for His mercy toward us all.
