34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. - John 8:34-36 (KJV)

When a person sins, they become a servant of sin, and sin brings on death (Romans 6:23). When the bible speaks of death, it is not just speaking of physical death, but also of all the sickness, diseases, poverty, and all the evil things that the devil brings upon us. In this life we either serve sin and reap death, or we serve God and reap righteousness (Romans 6:16). There is really no in between, as it is one or the other. If you don’t serve God, then you are serving the devil.

If you are a servant of the devils (slave to sin) your time is limited to this life, but if you are a son (serve God) then you will have life forever. Serving God gives you the abundant life here on earth (Ephesians 1:3) and an eternity with Jesus and the Father forever (John 10:28).

Those that choose Jesus, and are born again, are truly made free, not only in this life, but also for eternity. There is a difference in being made free, and being free. When you are born again, you are made free, but to be free you must walk in that freedom by staying in the Word of God (John 8:31), and living your life for Christ by obeying Him (Hebrews 5:9). Jesus said that those that believe in Him would do the works that He did (John 14:12). He didn't say that we could do the works that He did, but He said we would do them. We must follow the commandments of Jesus to walk in this freedom, and they include loving one another as He has loved us (John 13:34). If we love Jesus, we will do our best to follow all His commandments, and live our life for Him – Praise God for His love toward us.
